New Delhi, October 2025 — As the sowing season for Rabi crops begins across the country, farmers are looking for crops that promise high yield with low investment. Mustard has always been considered a profitable crop for Indian farmers.
This season, agricultural experts are recommending the ‘Shreeram 1666’ mustard variety, known for its record-breaking yield, high oil content, and strong disease resistance.

About the Variety: ‘Shreeram 1666’

According to agri scientists, Shreeram 1666 is a hybrid mustard variety with strong root growth and rapid branching, resulting in more pods per plant. It shows good tolerance to common diseases like white rust and contains 40–42% oil content, giving it a higher market value compared to other varieties.
Another major advantage is its sturdy stem, which prevents seed shattering during harvest.

Ideal Sowing Time: October to November

As per the Agriculture Department, the best time to sow Shreeram 1666 is between October and November.
It grows best in light to medium loamy soil with good moisture retention.
Before sowing, farmers should perform deep ploughing and sow the seeds in rows.
A seed rate of 1.5 to 2 kg per acre is sufficient.
Applying well-decomposed cow dung, along with a balanced dose of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potash, significantly increases yield.

Crop Duration and Irrigation

This mustard variety takes about 125 to 130 days to mature and is suitable for low-irrigation areas.
Even under mild drought conditions, it delivers a good harvest, making it ideal for semi-arid regions.

Expected Yield and Income

Experts report that farmers cultivating Shreeram 1666 can achieve a yield of 12 to 14 quintals per acre.
With current market prices of mustard ranging between ₹6,000 and ₹8,800 per quintal, farmers can earn ₹80,000 to ₹1.2 lakh per acre, depending on local market rates and crop quality.

Rising Popularity Among Farmers

Farmers in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh are increasingly adopting this variety.
Thanks to its better yield, high oil content, and fast growth, Shreeram 1666 has quickly become one of the most preferred mustard varieties across India.
