The mushroom cultivation scheme launched in Siwan, Bihar, has opened up a major income opportunity for farmers, youth, and women—especially those who do not own agricultural land. To promote mushroom production in the district, the Horticulture Department is providing mushroom growing kits at a massive 90% subsidy, reducing the effective cost to just ₹6 per kit.
Since mushroom farming requires very little space and offers high returns in a short period, this initiative is becoming a promising source of income and employment.
According to the Horticulture Department, a total of 30,160 mushroom kits will be distributed under the scheme.
The distribution will take place on a first-come, first-served basis.
After applying the subsidy, farmers will be able to purchase each kit for just ₹6, making it highly affordable even for beginners.
Two major types of mushroom kits are being offered:
Both varieties have a strong and steady market demand across India, making them ideal for profitable cultivation at low cost.
Farmers and interested individuals can apply online through the official website of the Horticulture Department.
Once the application is approved, the subsidized mushroom kits will be provided to the beneficiaries.
After training, farmers can start mushroom cultivation inside rooms, sheds, houses, or small spaces without any technical difficulty.
The demand for mushrooms is rising steadily in hotels, restaurants, and retail markets.
On average, one kit produces 1.5 to 2 kg of mushrooms.
If a farmer starts with 200–300 kits, they can earn lakhs of rupees within a few months.
