It finally feels like the weather has taken a turn. The chill has set in across North India, including Delhi-NCR, a bit earlier than usual this year. The cool morning and evening winds are reminding us that it’s time to bring out our quilts and blankets. Recent spells of rain and thunderstorms have bid farewell to the lingering heat, making the weather truly pleasant. But the real story is unfolding in the mountains, where the season has already broken records!

Record-Breaking Snowfall in Uttarakhand After 30 Years:

Yes, you heard it right! Uttarakhand has witnessed heavy snowfall in the first week of October, something not seen in the last 30 years. While the plains are experiencing mild cold, people in hilly regions like Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, and Chamoli are enjoying (and shivering in) this record snowfall. This unusual snow has caused temperatures to drop sharply. For tourists, it’s a delightful “triple treat,” allowing them to enjoy the pristine white blanket of snow. However, authorities have urged caution on slippery roads.

Delhi-NCR: Saying ‘Goodbye’ to Heat, ‘Hello’ to Cold:

Good news for Delhi-NCR residents: the heat is finally retreating! The recent rain has left a lingering coolness in the air, which is expected to continue. On October 9, the sky will be mostly clear with no rain forecasted, but chilly winds will blow throughout the day, giving a mild cold feel. Maximum temperatures are expected around 32°C, while minimums may drop to 20°C. According to the weather department, this pattern will continue until October 11, with mornings and evenings becoming even colder. So, it’s time to carry a light jacket or shawl when stepping out!

Mixed Weather in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar:

In Uttar Pradesh, recent rains are giving way to clearer skies. Most areas will see sunshine today, and daytime temperatures may rise slightly, so “full winter” hasn’t arrived yet. Nights, however, will remain mildly cold. No significant rainfall is expected in the next five days.

Bihar is also feeling the touch of early winter. After light showers in Patna, temperatures have dropped. Except for districts like West and East Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan, and Saran, light rain is possible in most areas today. Starting October 10, temperatures are expected to fall sharply, meaning the cold will intensify across the state.

South India on High Alert: Heavy Rain for 4–5 Days:

While North India is feeling the chill, southern states are witnessing active and potentially hazardous weather. The meteorological department has issued warnings for heavy rainfall over the next 4–5 days in interior Karnataka, Kerala, coastal Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu. Some areas may experience very heavy rainfall, leading to possible waterlogging.

Additionally, light to moderate rain is expected in Northeast India, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Lakshadweep. Coastal residents are advised to remain vigilant, as strong winds and heavy rain may disrupt transportation and affect crops.
