Good news for farmers engaged in pulse cultivation! The central government is taking a major step to directly increase their income and make the country self-reliant in pulse production. On October 11, from the Pusa Institute in Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the “Pulse Self-Reliance Mission 2025–26 to 2030–31.” This initiative is expected to bring new hope to farmers.

Pulse Self-Reliance Mission Approved

On October 1, 2025, the Central Government approved the Pulse Self-Reliance Mission. The main objective of this mission is to increase pulse production in the country and make farmers self-sufficient. The demand for pulses in India is continuously rising, but production hasn’t kept pace. Therefore, this scheme aims to boost domestic production and reduce dependence on imports.

Distribution of 8.8 Million Free Seed Kits

Under this mission, 8.8 million free seed kits will be distributed to farmers. These kits will contain high-quality seeds of improved pulse varieties to enhance productivity. In addition, the government will provide 126 quintals of certified seeds to farmers.
Not just seeds—the government is also working to minimize post-harvest losses. For this purpose, 1,000 processing units will be established so that farmers receive fair prices for their produce and wastage is reduced.

₹11,440 Crore Financial Assistance for Farmers

To ensure the success of the Pulse Self-Reliance Mission, the central government has approved ₹11,440 crore in financial assistance. This amount will be spent in a phased manner over six years.
By 2031, pulse cultivation will be promoted across 37 million hectares of land. Additionally, farmers in 440 districts will receive access to modern technology, quality seeds, and training.

MSP Procurement to Raise Farmers’ Income

The government will procure key pulses like tur (pigeon pea), urad (black gram), and masoor (lentil) at MSP (Minimum Support Price) to ensure farmers get fair prices. This will directly increase their income and make pulse farming more profitable.

Conclusion

The Pulse Self-Reliance Mission is not just a major step for farmers but for the entire nation. It will make India self-reliant in pulse production, provide farmers with high-quality seeds and technological support, and most importantly — bring a sustainable increase in their income.
