UP weather today: Cold wave likely to increase in many states including UP, IMD issues cold wave alert

A forecast predicts a sharp increase in cold waves across the country following widespread rainfall. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings of cold winds in Delhi and a cold day alert in Rajasthan. A drop in temperatures is expected in several states, including Uttar Pradesh, leading to intensified cold conditions.

Rainfall and Hailstorms Subside, Cold to Intensify:

The spell of rainfall and hailstorms caused by the western disturbance since December 26 across various parts of the country subsided on Saturday. However, the cold and foggy conditions are expected to worsen nationwide. According to IMD, there is no likelihood of rain today, but biting cold and dense fog will persist. In Uttar Pradesh, temperatures are predicted to drop by 3 to 6 degrees Celsius over the next 2–3 days.

Cold Wave and Fog Alerts:

Severe cold wave and dense fog conditions are anticipated in Punjab, Delhi weather, Haryana, and Chandigarh. An orange alert has been issued for cold days and fog in Rajasthan. Warnings of dense fog have also been sounded for Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and most parts of the Northeast.

Fog and Cold Winds in Delhi-NCR:

Delhi and NCR, clear skies will prevail in the coming days, but dense fog is expected during the morning and night. Today, the minimum temperature in Delhi is estimated to be 9°C, and the maximum may reach 17°C. Slow surface winds from the north are expected in the morning, gaining speed by noon.

Cold Winds in Delhi: On December 30 and 31, Delhi will witness clear skies with northwesterly winds blowing at speeds of 6 km/h in the morning, increasing to 8–10 km/h by the afternoon. Wind speeds may decrease in the evening and night.

Crop Damage Reports: The last three days of rain and hailstorms have caused significant damage to crops in Rajasthan, Haryana, and Maharashtra. Onion, mustard (rabi), and wheat crops have been affected.

The cold weather is expected to intensify across the country. According to IMD warnings, people must remain cautious due to dense fog and cold waves. Farmers may face challenging times under these weather conditions.
