Bhagalpur, October 2025 — The auspicious festival of Devuthani Ekadashi (Dev Uthani Ekadashi 2025), observed on the eleventh day (Ekadashi) of the Shukla Paksha in the Kartik month, will be celebrated this year on Saturday, November 1, 2025.
According to Hindu beliefs, on this day, Lord Vishnu awakens from his four-month divine sleep (Chaturmas), marking the beginning of all auspicious events such as weddings, housewarming ceremonies, and other sacred rituals.
Also known as Devotthan Ekadashi or Prabodhini Ekadashi, this festival holds deep religious importance.
Devotees wake Lord Vishnu with the chant “Utho Dev, Jago Dev” accompanied by bells, conch shells, drums, and devotional songs.
It is believed that during the four months of Chaturmas, Lord Vishnu rests in yogic slumber (yoganidra) in the lower realms, and his awakening on this day restores divine energy and auspiciousness to the world.
On Dev Uthani Ekadashi, devotees take an early morning bath, observe a fast (vrat), and worship Lord Vishnu with devotion.
The puja items include Tulsi leaves, lamps (deepdan), incense, rice, milk, and Panchamrit (a sacred mixture of milk, curd, ghee, honey, and sugar).
A symbolic Tulsi Vivah (marriage of Goddess Tulsi with Lord Vishnu) is also organized in homes and temples, symbolizing the divine union of God and humankind.
In Bihar’s Ang, Kosi, and Mithila regions, Devuthani Ekadashi is celebrated with great devotion and enthusiasm.
Temples resonate with conch sounds, bells, devotional songs, and prayers, creating a deeply spiritual ambiance.
On this day, devotees seek prosperity, happiness, and salvation (moksha) from Lord Vishnu.
