Gujarat: The Gujarat government has launched a new initiative called “Mari Yojana” to empower farmers through technology. Under this scheme, farmers can avail up to 40% subsidy on the purchase of a new smartphone. The initiative aims to connect farmers with the Digital India Mission, helping them adopt modern agricultural technologies and innovations.

Smart Farming for a Smart Future

The government believes that in today’s digital era, it is essential for farmers to be connected with technology. With smartphones, farmers can now easily access weather forecasts, market prices, crop insurance details, soil health cards, and updates about various government schemes.

They can also learn scientific farming techniques, watch YouTube tutorials, and get information about drone-based and sensor-based farming technologies — all from their phones.

40% Subsidy on Smartphone Purchases

Under Mari Yojana, farmers will receive a 40% subsidy or a maximum of ₹6,000, whichever is lower.
For example:

  • If the smartphone costs ₹12,000, the farmer will get a subsidy of ₹4,800.
  • If the phone costs ₹20,000 or more, the subsidy will be capped at ₹6,000.

This scheme offers major financial relief to farmers, enabling them to purchase a smartphone at nearly half the cost.

Key Benefits for Farmers

The Gujarat government’s initiative is expected to be a milestone in digital empowerment for the farming community. With access to smartphones, farmers will be able to:

  • Instantly check weather forecasts and rainfall alerts.
  • Track market rates and mandi prices for their produce.
  • Access details of schemes like PM-Kisan, Crop Insurance, and Soil Health Cards.
  • Watch farming videos and expert guidance online.
  • Learn about modern farming tools like drones and IoT sensors.

According to the government, this digital connectivity will increase productivity and income for farmers.

Eligibility Criteria

The benefits of Mari Yojana will be available only to land-owning farmers from Gujarat. The eligibility rules are as follows:

  • The applicant must be a resident of Gujarat.
  • The farmer must possess valid land ownership records.
  • The subsidy can be availed only once, even if the farmer has multiple land holdings.
  • Farmers who have not benefited from the scheme before are eligible.

How to Apply — Step-by-Step Process

Farmers can apply online through the official Mari Yojana portal.

Steps to apply:

  1. Visit the official Mari Yojana government portal.
  2. Complete farmer registration using Aadhaar and land details.
