New Delhi weather today: Heatwaves have gripped large parts of the country as temperatures continue to soar to dangerous levels. From Delhi-NCR to Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Rajasthan, and Haryana, the scorching sun is making life extremely difficult for residents. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings of further temperature rise in the coming days.

Weather Turns Extreme – Public Struggles Amid Sweltering Conditions:

Just days ago, some regions enjoyed pleasant weather with rain and thunderstorms, but now the situation has taken a sharp turn. Northern India is facing intense heatwaves, and strong hot winds by mid-morning are making it increasingly difficult for people to step outside.

Heatwave in Some States, Rain Likely in Others:

According to the latest IMD forecast, heatwave conditions are very likely on April 23 in Bihar, Odisha, the coastal regions of West Bengal, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, eastern Madhya Pradesh weather, eastern Uttar Pradesh, and Telangana. On the other hand, rain accompanied by thunderstorms is expected in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Meghalaya.

Humid Conditions and Hot Nights in Several States:

The IMD further reports that regions like northeastern Madhya Pradesh, coastal West Bengal, Telangana, and Chhattisgarh will experience not only extreme daytime heat but also unusually warm nights. Additionally, humid weather is expected to trouble people in Gujarat, Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Rayalaseema, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.

Heatwave to Persist in Northwest India Until April 28

The IMD has warned that the northwestern plains of India may continue to experience heatwave conditions until April 28, while in eastern India, the heatwave is likely to last till April 26. Experts are advising the public to avoid stepping out between 12 PM and 4 PM, the hottest hours of the day.

Safety Precautions to Beat the Heat:

To prevent heatstroke and health hazards during this period of extreme heat, the weather department and health experts recommend the following:

  • Stay well-hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
  • Wear light, loose-fitting cotton clothes.
  • Use an umbrella or hat when stepping out in the sun.
  • Pay special attention to children, the elderly, and those who are ill.
  • Ensure animals are kept in shade and have access to sufficient drinking water.
