On May 1, 2024, the ICAR – Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute (CCARI), Ilah, Goa, celebrated International Workers' Day as ‘Shramik Samman Divas’. The event aimed to recognize and appreciate the contributions of the workers employed across various departments of the institute. The Secretary of Social Welfare of the Goa Government, Shri Subhash Chandra, graced the occasion as the chief guest, while Dr. J.R. Faleiro, Advisor at the UN-FAO, attended as the guest of honor. The distinguished guests shared their thoughts on social security and welfare schemes for workers, inspiring and empowering them.
During the event, Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director of CCARI, welcomed the workers and presented them with hats for fieldwork, in line with the 2024 International Workers’ Day theme: "Ensuring Health and Safety in the Workplace Amidst Climate Change." He also highlighted several welfare initiatives for the workers, including:
Chief guest Shri Subhash Chandra praised CCARI’s unique initiative and encouraged the workers to continue contributing with dedication and sincerity. He emphasized that the institute’s gesture reflected its sensitivity toward its workforce. Senior Scientist and Head of KVK, Dr. N. Bommayasami, also interacted with the workers and commended their hard work.
As part of the event, an inspiring movie, 12th Fail, was screened for the workers and their children. The film depicted the struggles and triumphs of Shri Manoj Kumar Sharma, who succeeded in the UPSC exams, providing a source of motivation for the workers and their families.
Collaborative Efforts for the Event: The event’s success was made possible with the special contributions of Shri Rahul Kulkarni (ACTO), who expressed gratitude to all involved. Shri Vishwajeet Prajapati (TO) provided technical support, ensuring the smooth running of the event.
This celebration underscored ICAR-CCARI’s commitment to the well-being of its workers and its dedication to securing their rights and welfare.
