To promote potato cultivation in Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad district, the government has started distributing potato seeds to farmers at the rate of ₹3,500 per quintal.
The Horticulture Department is providing these seeds to farmers at subsidized rates to help them grow high-yield potato crops at a lower cost.
Farmers who had already applied for the scheme are now receiving the seeds through a token-based distribution system. After making the payment, they can collect the seeds directly from designated cold storage centers.
The distribution process is being carried out from cold storage centers across the district. Farmers are being provided with several improved varieties of potato seeds.
The most in-demand variety is ‘Kufri Bahar (3797)’, which remains a top choice among local farmers.
The department is supplying 1,077 quintals of Kufri Bahar F1 and 600 quintals of F2 seeds this season. Additionally, some new potato varieties have been introduced, which are known for better productivity and superior quality.
This year, farmers are being offered Kufri Ganga, Kufri Surya, Kufri Chipsona, and Kufri Lalit varieties.
Among these, Kufri Lalit has become especially popular among farmers because:
This initiative by the Horticulture Department is helping farmers access high-quality seeds at affordable prices, thereby reducing cultivation costs and increasing productivity.
Farmers in Firozabad district are optimistic about achieving better yields this Rabi season with these improved varieties.
Through this scheme, the government and the department are ensuring that farmers benefit from modern techniques and high-yield varieties, leading to a significant boost in potato production across the region.
