The influx of devotees in Prayagraj Maha Kumbh has significantly increased as the date for Basant Panchami bathing approaches on February 3. As a result, the ghats are seeing a heavy crowd. People are stopping at the Sangam nose for a holy dip, with many bringing quilts and mattresses to the ghats. The administration is concerned about preventing any untoward incidents like those on Makar Sankranti and is using sirens to ask devotees to move away from the ghats.
On Makar Sankranti, people staying at the ghats and sleeping there led to a stampede, prompting the administration to be even more vigilant this time. In order to prevent any mishaps during the Basant Panchami bath, entry of four-wheel vehicles into the Kumbh area has been restricted. Authorities have already started reviewing the situation to avoid any disorder.
More than 10 lakh devotees are observing ‘Kalpvas’ during the Kumbh Mela. On Wednesday, by 8 PM of Makar Sankranti, 7.64 crore devotees had taken a dip at the Sangam. By 10 AM on Thursday, the number had reached approximately 93 lakh, making it the largest number of devotees to bathe in a single day in Kumbh Mela history. Earlier, on Makar Sankranti, 3.5 crore people bathed, and the day before Makar Sankranti, on January 28, about 5 crore people had gathered at the Sangam.
Kumbh Mela Area: Since the start of the Maha Kumbh on January 13, over 28 crore devotees have bathed at the Sangam. According to the Mela administration, devotees continue to arrive from all directions. To manage the massive crowd, the district administration has opened the gates of Chandrashekhar Azad Park, encouraging people to sit there instead of on the roads to alleviate pressure on the ghats.
The administration is making every effort to ensure the safety and smooth operation of the Maha Kumbh Mela, hoping to avoid any unfortunate incidents during the Basant Panchami bath.
