A big relief for farmers! Now, there is no need for a laboratory or expert to verify the authenticity of seeds. With just one click, farmers can now easily determine whether their seeds are genuine or fake. The state government has introduced QR codes and digital traceability in the seed certification process, enhancing transparency and ensuring that farmers receive high-quality seeds.

Why is Seed Certification Important?

According to the state’s Agriculture Minister, Adal Singh Kanshana, the establishment of the seed certification agency was done under the Seed Act of 1966. The main objective of this agency is to provide farmers with quality, certified seeds, which will help improve their crop production capacity.

Last year, a large-scale seed certification was carried out in the state:

• Kharif 2024: Certification for 1.24 lakh hectares, 15 lakh quintals of seeds certified.
• Rabi 2024: Certification for 1.07 lakh hectares, 21.86 lakh quintals of seeds certified.
• Grishma 2024: Certification for 9,021 hectares, 85 thousand quintals of seeds certified.

How to Identify Genuine and Fake Seeds?

Now, before buying seeds, farmers can easily verify whether they are genuine or fake. The government has implemented a 2D QR code system for this purpose.

Steps to check seed authenticity:

1. Scan the QR code on the seed packet using your mobile phone.
2. All the relevant details related to the seed will appear on the screen.
3. This will include information such as the type of crop, seed variety, lot number, packing size, germination capacity, and physical purity.
4. It will also reveal which official verified the authenticity of the seed.

"Saathi Portal" Offers Traceability Facility:

The government has launched the "Saathi Portal" (Seed Traceability Portal), which allows farmers to access information about the seed production program and its traceability.

Through this portal, farmers can ensure that the seeds they purchase are certified and of good quality. This initiative is a significant step towards protecting farmers from fraud and providing them with high-quality seeds.

Why Are Certified Seeds Important?

Using quality seeds brings several benefits to farmers. High-quality seeds increase crop production, reduce costs, and provide higher profits. The risk of crop failure due to fake seeds is minimized.
