The Central Government has announced a major update for crores of farmers receiving benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) Yojana. After a long wait, the government has officially confirmed the release date of the 21st installment. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release the installment on 19 November 2025, and ₹2,000 will be directly transferred to farmers’ bank accounts through DBT.
The 20th installment was released on 2 August 2025, while flood-affected states like Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and later Jammu & Kashmir received it earlier on priority. Now, farmers across all other states will receive the next installment on the scheduled date.
According to official government data, more than 11 crore farmer families have received a total of ₹3.7 lakh crore under the PM-Kisan scheme so far. Launched in 2019, it is one of the largest Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) programs in the world.
Under the scheme, each eligible farmer family receives ₹6,000 per year in three equal installments of ₹2,000 each.
Reports highlight that more than 25% of the scheme’s beneficiaries are women, showing that the program is playing a significant role in strengthening the economic condition of rural women.
e-KYC and Verification Now Easier
To increase transparency and improve service delivery, the government has introduced multiple digital verification methods. Farmers can now complete e-KYC through three options:
• OTP-based e-KYC
• Biometric KYC at CSC centers
• Face Authentication-based e-KYC on the mobile app
The Face Authentication feature also allows farmers to complete e-KYC for other farmers in their locality.
Farmer ID (Kisan Registry): A new foundation for welfare schemes
The Agriculture Ministry is developing a unified Farmer ID, which will help in:
• Simplifying verification and eligibility checks
• Accessing multiple schemes through one registry
• Reducing documentation time
• Eliminating intermediaries
This will make it easier for farmers to benefit from government schemes in the future.
Impact of the PM-Kisan Scheme: Boost to Rural Economy
A study by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) shows:
• Farmers’ dependence on loans has reduced
• Investments in agriculture have increased
• Risk-taking capacity has improved
• Spending on education and healthcare has also risen
Overall, the PM-Kisan scheme has strengthened the economic stability of farmers and improved rural livelihoods.
