To enhance the financial well-being of Indian farmers, the central government launched the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM-KISAN). This scheme provides essential financial assistance to farmers, aiming to make them self-reliant and improve their standard of living. Here’s a detailed look at the scheme, its eligibility, and how it works.
What is PM-KISAN?
PM-KISAN is a centrally funded initiative that was launched on December 1, 2018. Under this scheme, eligible farmer families receive ₹6,000 annually as financial assistance, disbursed in three equal installments. The amount is directly transferred to the beneficiaries' bank accounts.
Key Features of PM-KISAN Scheme:
Financial Assistance: Every eligible landholding farmer family gets ₹6,000 annually, paid in three equal installments.
Definition of Family: A family under the scheme includes the husband, wife, and their minor children.
Beneficiary Selection: State governments and Union Territory administrations are responsible for identifying eligible farmer families based on the scheme’s guidelines.
Benefits of the Scheme:
Provides direct financial support to small and marginal farmers.
Strengthens farmers' income, thereby improving their standard of living.
Encourages greater investment in agriculture, thereby contributing to the agricultural sector’s growth.
