Severe Weather Conditions Expected in Eastern India:

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), several parts of eastern India are likely to experience thunderstorms, lightning, strong winds, and hailstorms today. Additionally, a fresh western disturbance is expected to impact northwest India from February 25, bringing heavy rainfall and snowfall to multiple states.

Impact of Western Disturbance in Northwest India:

The weather department has predicted heavy rainfall and snowfall between February 25 and 28 in Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Strong winds and hailstorms are also expected in the western Himalayan region during this period.

Weather Forecast for Delhi:

In the national capital, shallow fog is expected in the morning, followed by clear skies during the day. The minimum temperature is expected to be around 12°C, while the maximum temperature may reach 25°C. However, from February 24 onwards, temperatures are likely to rise. Unseasonal rainfall is also expected in Delhi on February 27 and 28.

IMD Advisory for Farmers:

Given the weather conditions, the IMD’s Agro-Met division has issued an advisory for farmers, particularly in Arunachal Pradesh, the Gangetic plains of West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh.

  1. Protection from hailstorms: Fruit orchards and vegetable crops should be covered with anti-hail nets or protective caps.
  2. Storage of harvested crops: Farmers are advised to store harvested crops in safe locations or cover them with tarpaulin sheets.
  3. Support for horticultural crops: Strong winds may cause crops to fall, so mechanical support should be provided.

Drop in Temperature Recorded:

In recent weeks, temperature fluctuations have been observed across various states:

  1. Northwest India: A decline of 1-4°C in temperatures has been recorded in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, western and eastern Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan.
  2. Gangetic Plains (West Bengal): An increase of 3-5°C has been noted.
  3. Central India & Gujarat: No major temperature change is expected over the next three days, but a rise of 2-3°C is likely afterward.

Rainfall in the Last 24 Hours:

  1. Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh: Light to moderate rain and snowfall.
  2. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim: Rainfall in several areas.
  3. Assam, Meghalaya, Andaman & Nicobar Islands: Light to moderate rain.
  4. Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh: Isolated light rain.
  5. Odisha and parts of West Bengal: Hailstorms and strong winds were also reported.

The IMD has warned of worsening weather conditions in the coming days across several states. Farmers are advised to follow the issued guidelines to protect their crops. Heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and hailstorms may cause significant crop damage, making preparation and precautionary measures essential.
