Here are the essential summer okra farming tips to follow.

1. Maintain the Right Temperature:

For optimal growth, okra requires a temperature above 20°C, ensuring proper germination. However, if temperatures exceed 42°C, flower drop occurs, leading to reduced yield.

• In summer, okra yields around 50 quintals per hectare.
• In the monsoon season, the yield can reach up to 100 quintals per hectare.
• Proper field preparation and timely weeding are crucial for better productivity.

2. Proper Field Preparation:

Okra grows best in loamy and well-drained soil, enriched with organic manure and essential nutrients. Follow these steps for effective field preparation:

• Plow the soil 3-4 times to keep it loose and level.
• Divide the field into properly sized beds for efficient irrigation.
• Apply 120-200 quintals of cow dung manure per hectare.
• Use 50 kg nitrogen, 50 kg phosphorus, and 50 kg potash per hectare.
• One month after sowing, add 50 kg nitrogen for adequate plant nutrition.

3. Sowing Guidelines for Okra:

Summer Sowing:

• Maintain 30 cm row spacing and 12-15 cm plant spacing.
• Irrigate every 5-6 days for proper moisture.

Monsoon Sowing:

• Keep row spacing at 45-60 cm and plant spacing at 30-45 cm.
• Water only when necessary, as rainfall provides natural irrigation.

4. Effective Weed Control and Care:

To keep okra plants healthy, timely weed control is essential.

• Perform regular weeding and hoeing to ensure nutrient absorption and prevent growth restrictions.
