Ujjain: After the long Diwali holidays, the agricultural produce mandis of Madhya Pradesh came alive again on Friday. As soon as the markets reopened, farmers flocked to the mandis, and buying and selling activities resumed in full swing. Under the state government’s Bhavantar Scheme, soybean procurement has started across mandis in the state.
In the Ujjain Agricultural Produce Mandi, the post-Diwali trading began with a traditional Muhurat ceremony. Firecrackers were lit to mark the occasion, and the mandi committee implemented a lottery system for conducting trades, where farmers’ names were drawn randomly. Farmers, traders, and mandi officials attended the event in large numbers.
At Ujjain Mandi, the following rates were recorded:
Compared to last year, soybean prices were ₹1,198 lower (₹7,411 per quintal in 2024), wheat prices fell by around ₹1,400, and dollar chana prices were ₹7,038 lower. Farmers expressed concern that despite rising production costs, the lower market rates could lead to losses.
The lower prices this year left many farmers disappointed, as increased costs due to rain and pest attacks were not adequately compensated in the market.
The mandi also hosted a Diwali Milap ceremony, attended by MP Umesh Nath, mandi officials, and traders. Farmers arrived a day in advance using bullock carts and tractor-trolleys to participate in the Muhurat auction.
To assist farmers, the government has established a control room to address issues related to the Bhavantar Scheme. Farmers can contact the control room from 8 AM to 8 PM at 0755-2556207.
Additionally, Ujjain farmers can reach out to their Regional Agriculture Extension Officer, Aditya Sharma at 9165465076 / 9826954915.
While the festive spirit has returned to the mandi, farmers remain unsatisfied with the lower prices of soybean, wheat, and dollar chana. They hope that in the coming days, the Bhavantar Scheme will ensure better prices for their crops.
