Due to snowfall and rain in the hilly regions, the weather pattern in Uttar Pradesh has changed significantly. According to senior meteorologist Atul Kumar Singh, a new western disturbance is expected to impact North India in January 2025, which is likely to increase the cold further in Uttar Pradesh.
According to the IMD, dense fog is expected to cover over 60 districts of the state on December 30. During the morning hours, fog may limit visibility to 100–200 meters. These districts include Banda, Chitrakoot, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Meerut, Agra, Bareilly, and Jhansi.
Additionally, districts such as Lucknow, Kanpur, Ayodhya, Saharanpur, Mathura, and Rampur will also experience foggy conditions. Fog is likely to impact road and rail transportation.
The northern and northwesterly winds blowing from the mountains have intensified the chill in North India. In the coming days, maximum temperatures are expected to drop by 2–3 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures may fall by 3–4 degrees Celsius.
On Sunday, several districts, including the capital Lucknow, did not witness any sunshine, leading to cold conditions during both day and night. Najibabad and Bulandshahr recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 9.0°C in the entire state.
A dense fog alert has been issued for over 60 districts in Uttar Pradesh on Monday. These districts include Ghazipur, Mau, Azamgarh, Deoria, Kushinagar, Sant Kabir Nagar, Basti, Amroha, Moradabad, and Mainpuri. Caution is advised in these areas due to reduced visibility.
The Meteorological Department predicts that cold conditions will intensify with the onset of the new year. The continuous inflow of cold winds from the mountains will lead to a further drop in temperatures, increasing the chill. Farmers and the general public are advised to remain vigilant regarding these weather changes.
