After two days of rainfall in Uttar Pradesh, the cold has intensified further. Most parts of the state are experiencing severe winter conditions. Even during the daytime, cities like Lucknow and others are shivering in the cold. According to the IMD, the weather in the state is expected to remain dry on December 31, but a dense fog and cold wave alert will continue.
The Meteorological Department predicts a drop of 2–3°C in maximum temperatures and 3–4°C in minimum temperatures across the state. In districts like Muzaffarnagar, Aligarh, and Etawah, the maximum temperature has fallen below 14°C. On Monday, Bulandshahr recorded a minimum temperature of 6.0°C, which is 3°C lower than Sunday.
On Tuesday, a cold wave alert has been issued for over 30 districts, including Kaushambi, Prayagraj, Fatehpur, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Lucknow, and Raebareli. Meanwhile, districts like Ayodhya, Meerut, Agra, Bareilly, and Moradabad are likely to experience dense fog. Reduced visibility and an increase in cold in these areas may disrupt daily life.
Meteorologist Atul Kumar Singh has stated that due to snowfall in the hills and the effect of a western disturbance, the cold will intensify further in January 2025. The westerly winds will result in chilling conditions throughout the day and night. A cold day warning has been issued for December 31 and January 1 in the state.
Increasing Chill in the State: Thick layers of clouds and fog have engulfed several districts, preventing sunlight during the day and offering no relief from the cold. The weather department has cautioned people to take necessary precautions against the effects of the cold and frost.
Precautions and Preparations: In view of the cold wave and winter conditions, people are advised to wear warm clothes, use heaters, and protect themselves from cold winds. Additionally, drivers are urged to exercise extra caution while driving in foggy conditions.
